The post-doctoral research (PDR) will participate in an externally funded research project administered through the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center. The primary research responsibilities consist of laboratory analyses to determine the content of trace elements and/or black carbon and/or other creative proxies in ice cores extracted from the European Alps (Mt. Ortles) and preserved at the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center. In addition, the PDR will interpret these data with an emphasis on quantifying the human influence on the chemical characteristics of the glaciers in this region. Finally, the PDR will be encouraged to seek additional funding from government and private sources.
Doctoral degree in environmental, geological, physical or chemical sciences major; expertise in atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry and/or glaciology and experience in the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
Expertise in preparing environmental samples under clean room conditions and conducting sample analysis by mass spectrometry and/or SP2 and/or other advanced analytical instruments.
Target Salary: $47,500.00 - $48,000.00 Annually
