Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology to begin September 1, 2018.
Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. A commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising, including supervision of undergraduate thesis work, is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: We prefer candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and who can demonstrate an ability to engage students in modern laboratory and analytical techniques as well as fieldwork. We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse groups, and who will diversify the expertise and experiences represented in the department.
Major/Essential Functions: Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in earth materials (mineralogy/petrology), structural geology, and introductory geology. Additional teaching responsibilities will include courses contributing to general education, such as First Term Seminar or a January term course involving experiential learning. The successful candidate will have an identifiable research program that can include undergraduate researchers, and tenure-track faculty are expected to conduct high-quality research that is recognized and published. Gustavus faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
