The Geoscience Outreach Coordinator serves as a representative of the Kimbell School of Geoscience by meeting with teachers, guidance counselors, industry representatives, scientists, government employees, and the public to organize, develop, and implement a National Science Foundation sponsored geoscience program (IUSE 1700851) for high school and first-year university students. (Grant Funded Position) Examples:
Facilitates outreach initiatives and provides information and educational services; develops educational content for the departmental web site, events, and publications; gives presentations to promote the program; holds outreach events multiple times per month; conducts geologic field trips; and creates, organizes, and maintains a collection of education and outreach geologic instructional materials. Responsible for coordinating the geoscience summer camp. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in geoscience, environmental science, or the natural-sciences education is required; Master's degree preferred.
A minimum of two years working in science education and presenting scientific concepts in a group setting. Must have experience in design, development, and delivery of scientific content in educational settings.
Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are essential. Must have knowledge in terms of geoscience applications, technical writing, and teaching pedagogy.
Must be able to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment, and take initiative with little supervision. Attention to detail required. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
