50% - Routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the Thermo-Scientific ICAP quadrupole ICPMS and Element 2 high resolution ICPMS. Oversight of day-to-day operations and health and safety compliance with the adjacent clean lab.
25% - Management of sample preparation facilities ensuring quality control and archiving of data. Supporting research projects of students and faculty; training new users on the instruments; preparing and analyzing samples; oversight of radiation and environmental health and safety compliance; assistance in teaching laboratory-based courses; train and work with users from different fields.
15% - Involvement in developing state-of-the-art laboratory techniques and analysis of diverse geologic and environmental materials expected, with opportunities to pursue research and external funding. Involved in developing applications for these instruments and take active role in the communication of research results to the scientific community.
10% - Administrative responsibility for facilitating customer billing, procurement, and rate setting and renewals of recharges.
Applicants must hold a MS degree in geology, environmental geology, physics and/or materials sciences or related field and 1-3 years demonstrated experience in solution-based geochemistry using ICPMS. Meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills; ability and desire to work independently as well as part of a team along with the proven ability to self-start and show initiative. Must have excellent communication skills.
PhD degree in geology, environmental geology, physics and/or materials sciences or related field, 4-5 years demonstrated experience solution-based geochemistry using ICPMS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
