Visiting Assistant Professor College of Arts and Sciences Environmental Studies
The Environmental Studies Program at Adelphi University invites applications for a Visiting Professor level beginning Fall 2018. We seek an environmental scientist with teaching and research expertise in marine and earth systems and the ability to teach courses in his/her specialty for the undergraduate majors. The ideal candidate would also have interest and experience teaching General Education courses emphasizing active learning. We expect the candidate to provide a strong field component to our interdisciplinary curriculum and contribute to our introductory outdoor course Observing Nature in the Field. The candidate should be comfortable teaching courses required for Earth Science teacher certification including water resources physical geology environmental geology and oceanography. The candidate’s expertise should include one of the following aspects of marine environmental science: water quality/storm water hydrology marine geology oceanography. It should complement existing faculty working in coastal systems oceanography and marine and terrestrial ecology among other fields. He/she would be expected to join the Environmental Studies research group currently working on anthropogenic changes to the South Shore Estuary Reserve and in collaboration with other Adelphi faculty lead undergraduate and graduate research. The candidate may be able to participate in research courses to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and rainforests and Belize or develop additional field programs. Applicants should have demonstrated teaching and research expertise in earth and environmental science with significant experience incorporating active learning methods. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses in Environmental Studies and Earth Science and the ability to develop new courses in his/her area of expertise for our interdisciplinary undergraduate and masters degree programs. The program welcomes candidates committed to teaching in a richly diverse community of students and faculty. A Ph.D. in a related field is required at the time of appointment.
