The Physics & Earth Sciences Department at Framingham State University seeks a part-time instructor for the upcoming Spring semester, to teach an introductory astronomy course, ASTR 220 The Solar System on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 10:20am. The course is an overview of what we know about the Solar System: how it began and evolved, its components and their properties, and how these elements interact as a system. Lectures are supplemented by selected readings, planetarium presentations, and telescopic observations. Duties include setting and grading weekly homeworks and exams, and being available to assist students outside of class time. Ability to teach both science and non-science majors is a must. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
M.S. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or related field, demonstrable effective teaching skills
Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related field, with emphasis on Planetary Geology; knowledge and experience of best practices in science teaching, ability to make subjects exciting and comprehensible to students from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, visiting lecturer position.
