Working collaboratively to safeguard Madera County's Water and Natural Resources. This position will have the primary responsibility for developing and implementing county policy and activities regarding surface water, ground water and watershed management and for acting as the County's facilitator and collaborator with various committees, organizations and stakeholders regarding water and natural resources issues.
The Director of Water and Natural Resources (Director) will serve as the County’s primary resource and expert on the Sustainable Groundwater Management (SGMA); build relationships with community stakeholders with regard to water issues; and assume responsibility for other natural resource management issues as they occur. The Director should be results driven with a desire to serve the public; a strong communicator, both orally and in writing; develop policy that is consistent with applicable laws and the vision of the Board of Supervisors; a dynamic public speaker; encourage internal and external agency engagement; work well under pressure within prescribe deadlines; and remain knowledgeable on all legislation concerning water issues.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business or Public Administration, Political Science, Engineering, Urban/Regional Planning, Geography, Geology, Hydrology, Water/Natural Resources, Environmental Science/Studies, Agricultural Science or a related field.
Seven (7) years of program oversight or policy development experience in the following, or closely related, fields: water resource planning/protection; environmental/geological studies; agricultural science; and natural resource planning.
A valid Class ‘C’ Driver’s License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
