The UC San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Marine Physical Laboratory Division (MPL) is seeking a new Staff Research Associate I. The incumbent shall conduct a variety of standard experimental procedures in support of a research program in ocean carbon dioxide measurements.
Additional responsibilities will be conducting the analysis of seawater for CO2 parameters, undertaking limited fieldwork, and performing any necessary chemical analyses. Shall maintain a laboratory notebook, enter experimental data into a computer, produce written &/or oral reports, maintain laboratory equipment and supplies inventory, ensure equipment maintenance, and order lab supplies.
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. Chemistry, Geology/Geochemistry); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to perform various chemical analyses and laboratory procedures.
Familiarity working in a laboratory making chemical measurements (experience preferred).
Basic understanding of principles of ocean CO2 chemistry.
Knowledge of sample collection techniques (for CO2 in seawater).
Experience using computers for data processing and word processing.
Good writing and communication skills.
Knowledge of Laboratory Safety Procedures.
Must be willing to undertake fieldwork at sea on occasion.
