The Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center RMERC in conjunction with the Energetics Research Facility (ERF) at Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time (1.0 FTE on a 3 year renewable contract) non-tenure accruing Assistant Research Professor Position. The RMERC and ERF are seeking candidates with experience in energetics and explosives research. Areas of interest include but are not limited to, improvised explosive device performance, detection, defeat, high fidelity computational physics of energetic events, hypervelocity impact dynamics, armor design, and combustible dust performance. The candidate is expected to raise part of his salary from research contracts during the second and third years, and all of his salary for year four and beyond.
Applications are invited from candidates that possess an earned Ph.D. in Explosives Engineering or closely related fields. The successful candidates will demonstrate the potential to establish and grow a strong research program and will participate in all aspects of the Center's mission, which includes research, teaching, and service.
The Center and ERF are housed within the College of Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, located in Rolla, Missouri and specializes in science and engineering that deals with rock, including energy production, mining, geology, geophysics, nuclear, and related fields. There are currently 19 faculty members actively involved in research within the center. The Explosive Engineering laboratories include two indoor blast chambers capable of 2 and 8 lbs of unconfined explosives, as well as joint access to the experimental mine and shock tunnel testing facilities.
