Lead the technical aspects related to consulting, training, scientific application package support, and the development, porting, and optimization of research-computing software in the Department of Earth & Environment. Serve as the primary support contact for faculty and graduate students on complex projects and issues that require in-depth knowledge of the multiple technical areas within the Universitys Research Computing Services Group as well as the core computational research tools used by the Department of Earth & Environment. Work directly with faculty and other academic stakeholders to assess needs and recommend solutions as a representative of the Research Computing team. Act as primary liaison between faculty, staff, and students in Earth & Environment and staff at Research Computing Services. Reside in the Department of Earth & Environment.

B.A./B.S. required, Masters preferred. Five to eight years of relevant experience. Strong analytical skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables. Extensive knowledge of numerical methods, computational methodologies, and math/statistical software packages (Python, MATLAB, R). Experience with computational workflows and tools (e.g. ENVI/ARCGIS, QGIS/GRASS) related to Earth & Environment, including Energy & Environmental science, Geographical Sciences, Biogeosciences, and Geology/Geophysics/Geochemistry. Fluency in multiple programming languages, using and scripting Linux, and ability to quickly learn new programming languages and tools as required. Experience with computing on large-scale clusters and optimizing/parallelizing code desired.
