Serves as a liaison to specific science departments. Integrates information literacy and library resources into the curriculum via instruction sessions, workshops, and other teaching activities. Participates in scholarly communications activities. Develops library-related online materials that support the curriculum, including the creation and upkeep of research guides. Provides assistance to students, faculty, and other members of the ECU community through general and subject-specific research consultations and regularly scheduled desk shifts. Manages a collection development budget for the science fields. Works closely with faculty within these departments to develop and assess the library’s collections and services. Follows the University's best practices to build and support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of the student population.
Librarians, like all library staff, have leadership responsibilities regardless of their position within ALS. Leadership for librarians includes activities such as contributing to goals and strategic library directions through active participation on committees, teams, and task forces and sharing expertise throughout the library in order to further library and university missions.
Finalists will be asked to make a presentation during the on-campus interview.

Organizational Unit Overview:
J.Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and service-oriented colleague for the entry-level position of Science Librarian. This 12-month, fixed-term faculty librarian is a member of the Academic Library Services (ALS) Research and Instructional Services Department (RIS), and reports to the Head of RIS. Extensive programs of outreach and instruction are at the heart of the library's activities. The Science Librarian will fulfill liaison duties strategically and collaboratively in order to enhance student learning, faculty research excellence, and scholarly communication practices. The chosen candidate will work with science departments including, but not limited to Biology, Chemistry, Kinesiology, and Geology. The incumbent will be hired with the title of Library Assistant Professor and show evidence of potential for professional growth in librarianship and have the ability and willingness to participate in Unit service.
