Department: IU Bloomington Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University invites applicants for a post‐doctoral research position in the lab of Professor Douglas Edmonds. The successful candidate will be involved in a large, multidisciplinary National Science Foundation Coastal Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability project on the sustainability of deltaic coastlines, with particular reference to the Mississippi River Delta. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a basin‐scale morphodynamic model using Delft3D based on the Mississippi Delta. The goal is to understand how deltaic land building evolves under different conditions of sediment supply by rivers, subsidence, vegetation growth, and ocean conditions.
A Ph.D. by time of appointment in geology (or earth science equivalent), geography, oceanography, or engineering is required.
Experience or training in one or more of the following is strongly preferred: numerical modeling (especially morphodynamic modeling), coastal geomorphology, or familiarity with the dynamics of the Mississippi Delta.
