The Kentucky Climate Center is seeking applicants for the position of Applications Programmer for the Kentucky Mesonet (www.kymesonet.org), a research-grade weather and climate monitoring infrastructure that supports public safety and economic development across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This position will design and develop web applications, including determining specific requirements, graphic design, coding, and ongoing maintenance, for the Kentucky Mesonet.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Designing, coding, and implementing computer applications and scripts for dynamic, interactive, web-based analysis and display of scientific data, inclusive of desktop and mobile device environments
Troubleshooting/diagnosing application problems
Creating and maintaining detailed documentation of applications
Training and supervising students
Assisting with systems administration tasks, as needed to backup existing staff
Participation in research activities, as needed
B.S. in Computer Science or B.S. in a scientific or technical discipline, such as Meteorology, with equivalent computing experience and/or training
Experience in some combination of LINUX, PHP, Python, and SQL
Experience with Graphic design and HTML/CSS/JS
Salary Grade: 108 Salary Range: $40,000 - $46,000
