The Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Finnegan Lab, in the area of Earth System modelling, at 100% Full-Time with an expected start date of April 2019.
Responsibilities: We seek a postdoctoral researcher to work on integrating Earth System models, ecological models, and paleontological data to better understand the drivers of marine extinction events in the geological past. The ideal candidate will have experience with paleoclimate and biogeochemical modeling, especially with the Genie family of Earth System models, and strong numerical and programming skills. The researcher will take part in a multidisciplinary effort, working with cutting-edge machine reading researchers and ecological modelers, to mine proxy constraints from the geological literature, use these constraints to initialize Earth System models, and predict range shift and extinction patterns that can be compared to those observed in the marine fossil record.
Basic Qualifications: Must have completed all degree requirements except the dissertation or be enrolled in an accredited Ph.D. or equivalent degree program at the time of application.
Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent international degree by the start date of the job.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with paleoclimate and biogeochemical modeling, especially with the Genie family of Earth System models, and strong numerical and programming skills by the start date of the job.
