The Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Division provides instruction and programs aligned with the Collegeâs mission: Thomas Nelson Community College changes lives, empowers students to succeed, and enhances the social and economic vitality of the region through high quality education and workforce training, excellent service, and innovative partnerships. SET includes comprehensive transfer and occupational technical programs and courses in computer science, engineering, engineering technologies, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, allied health, physical education and health that are of superior quality and prepare students for success. The SET Division additionally provides support for dual enrollment programs, contract classes, co-enrollment initiatives and grants. The position is responsible for ensuring that laboratory supplies and equipment are ready for use in the SET Division laboratories. This position maintains inventory of all laboratory supplies and equipment and ensures that supplies and laboratory materials are procured in a timely fashion for instructional purposes. *Core Responsibilities* * Making reagents in appropriate quantities, using accepted techniques with accuracy and precision. * Supplying laboratories with supplies and equipment necessary for the successful completion of each lab. * Dealing with the waste products from the labs in a safe and environmentally sound manner. * Maintain accuracy and precision with reagents in the laboratory. * Checking on lab supplies during lab periods to ensure that instructors have all the items they need. * Cleaning up after reagent preparation so that prep areas are neat and ready for future use. * Ensuring faculty have updated handouts and all necessary supplies for each lab session. * Providing photocopies of handouts, supplemental material, etc. * Recording, for each chemical, its location, and quantity. * Updating inventory with quantity information when a given chemical is used. * Maintaining paperwork for items ordered and keeping records of when ordered items arrive. * Maintaining lists of needed chemicals so they can be ordered in time for labs to use them. * Washing glassware as needed to insure that necessary glassware is always available. * Keeping labs neat and organized. * Determine when items or chemicals are no longer needed and dispose of them in the appropriate manner. * Coordinating supply orders and requisitions with lab supervisor at the Historic Triangle campus. * Researching prices and availability of necessary chemicals, supplies, and equipment for laboratories. * Making inquiries via phone or email regarding special pricing and discounts available to Thomas Nelson Community College. * Ordering, organizing, and receiving parts and equipment used in the labs. * Locating and providing equipment necessary for special demonstrations. * Assist faculty with special projects. * Provide space and materials for out of class studying.
