The Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Fixed-term Assistant Professor, Senior Research position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The position of Assistant Professor, Senior Research, with the OSU Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMRS) involves conducting research and scholarly activities to further the field of marine geology and seafloor mapping (80% time), along with supervision (15%), and service (5%). Collaborates with other researchers in multidisciplinary research program. Collects data on ships at sea during 1-2 expeditions per year. Presents research results at scientific conferences and publishes results in scientific journals. Develops research projects and secures outside grant and contract funds for scholarly research activity.
Requires PhD or terminal degree and experience in the academic discipline/ unit and participation in a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
- Ph.D. in Marine Geology or Marine Geophysics or equivalent - Experience collecting and analyzing seafloor mapping data from multibeam sonars on ships and autonomous underwater vehicles during research expeditions at sea - Demonstrated record of conducting and publishing research on marine geology and tectonics, hydrothermal systems, and/or methane gas seeps - Demonstrated knowledge of techniques in marine geology, marine geophysics, seafloor mapping systems – Must be proficient in oral and written English language
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the criminal history check requirement.
Work is completed mainly in office setting (80%) with occasional (up to 20%) duties on research vessels for collecting data and samples at sea.
