The New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources is seeking a Petroleum Geologist for our Oil and Gas Program. We are a research and service division of New Mexico Tech (NMT) in Socorro, NM that acts as the geologic survey for the state. We are a diverse group of motivated geoscientists and support staff that work on a wide variety of interesting projects and we welcome innovative approaches to solving scientific and technical problems.
We are seeking junior professional who has experience in petroleum and subsurface geology, and will focus research largely on topics that are relevant to geological problems in New Mexico. This position involves research and service will work in the Oil and Gas Program at the Bureau of Geology, servicing a broad audience, from the general public and academics to oil and gas and environmental companies.
Master’s degree in geoscience required with specialization in petroleum geology. Ph.D. desired with emphasis in stratigraphy, sedimentary, or petroleum geology. If applicant has MS, but not PhD, then 1 year of industry, relevant USGS or relevant state geological survey experience will be required.
