Job Summary The Division of Geological and Planetary Science is seeking Research Assistants to be part of the support of NASA's Lunar Trailblazer Mission, whose goal is to send a satellite to the moon. The Lunar Trailblazer team is seeking assistance in a number of areas that include building spectral libraries of geological materials relevant to the Moon, geographic information systems (GIS), social media, graphic design and illustration, and web design initiatives.
Job Duties The exact duties will depend on the candidate's background and the needs of the Lunar Trailblazer mission at the time of application. Example tasks may include: - Spectral library compiliation - Research the literature and databases for spectra of lunar materials to build a digital test set for the mission. - Geographic Information Systems - Assist the Trailblazer team in compiling, georeferencing, and making publically available the GIS project. - Social media - Write blog entries, produce a podcast, post to social media, and share this project with the public. - Graphic design and illustration - Create an authentic look for the mission. Develop explanatory illustrations and graphic design. - Web design - Help design the web presence for the mission, where all the materials for the project will be made available. - Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will contribute to one or more of these aspects.
Basic Qualifications - Completed college-level course in natural sciences, math and computer science, or visual arts. - Basic knowledge of geology, GIS, social media, graphic design, or web design principles.
