The Fisheries Collaborative Program (FCP) Assistant Director is an integral part of the FCP's administrative team that is responsible for all operational elements of the program including supervision of administrative staff, oversight of UCSC's academic personnel actions, involvement in the generation and/or coordination of funding, monitoring safety compliance, preparation of program goals and objectives, evaluation of program activity and performance, administration of program communication, coordination of student development opportunities, and implementation of day to day operational needs. With broadly defined objectives, the Assistant Director of Operations provides administrative direction and financial management; serves as liaison with collaborating programs, unit heads, and funding agencies; has signature authority on program accounts; and oversees a combined budget of approximately $10M. The Assistant Director understands and supports the administrative and budgetary needs of the Fisheries Collaborative Program. While meeting these responsibilities, the Assistant Director partners closely with the Directors -- including UCSC's Cooperative Institute for Marine Ecosystems and Climate (CIMEC) Principal Investigator, Assistant Director of IMS, Director of NOAA's Fisheries Ecology Division and Director of the NOAA's Southwest Fisheries Science Center-- in matters relating to the program's growth, financial plan, research directives and strategic plan. The Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) is an organized research unit within the Physical and Biological Sciences Division at the University of California Santa Cruz. As an organized research unit, IMS mission is to increase our knowledge of the world's oceans and inhabitants to better understand their economic importance and the impact people have on them. Through this effort, IMS maintains the responsibility to encourage, develop, and support marine research and education, and does this by providing research opportunities, resources, facilities, and support for scientists within the institute and with other marine research institutions. As part of this effort, UCSC launched the Fisheries Collaborative Program (FCP) which is a recognized research program within IMS that primarily fosters research collaborations between NOAA scientists, UCSC faculty, IMS researchers and students. The research activities of the FCP include field and laboratory experiments, modeling and computational studies and involves marine and freshwater species and habitats. Research is often coordinated with other agencies, such as US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Geological Survey, US Bureau of Reclamation, US Army Corps of Engineers, Moss Landing Marine Lab, other University of California campuses, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, the Stanford University Hopkins Marine Station, as well as water management agencies. The FCP program is overseen by the IMS Director, FCP Director, FCP Associate Director of Research and the FCP Assistant Director of Operations.
