Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is currently searching for a Postdoctoral Investigator to join the Geology & GeophysicsDepartment. This is a temporary (one-year), full-time, exemptposition, and is eligible for benefits. The successful candidate must be able and willing to travel internationally and conduct up to 12 weeks of drilling fieldwork in northern Botswana. The institution has a top-rated postdoctoral program ( www.whoi.edu/postdoctoral/ ) that supports a dynamic postdoctoral community with formal mentoring and career guidance programs. While the primary focus of the work will be in research, the Postdoctoral Investigator will have the opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the project. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of WHOI researchers investigating interactions between incipient continental rifting, fluvial systems, and regional climate in southern Africa. Fieldwork (including camping overnight) in remote wilderness areas will be required. Must be able and willing to follow health recommendations for travelers to Botswana from the US Federal Agency Center for Disease Control and Prevention (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/botswana) Physicalduties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to liftless than 25 lbs independently and carry 10-25 lbs. Visual abilities to include depth perception and ability todistinguish basic colors. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions.Other physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic /fine grasping and manipulation, repetitive motion, kneeling, bending, twisting, and stooping. Other occupational requirements include talking, traveling, working around others, and with others. Will be exposed to dust or other irritants, excessive heat or humidity, grease and oils, and infectious contagious disease.Physicalduties are subject to change.
