Given the extensive delay in this hiring action we are inviting new applicants as well as encouraging previous applicants to update their application materials. This position is part of a cluster hire that will expand the sea-going expertise and capabilities within CEOAS, and will instigate new and innovative college- and university-wide, national, and international oceanographic research programs. As part of this cluster hire, the successful candidate will foster collaborative research across the disciplines in the college. They will complement or strengthen existing CEOAS research areas, develop and maintain vigorous, externally-funded, sea-going research programs, and help provide teaching and experiential learning opportunities for the growing undergraduate ocean sciences programs. They will also contribute to the university and college missions of increasing diversity and to provide an inclusive environment for underrepresented groups in the ocean sciences. For this position in Chemical Oceanography the specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, marine pelagic-, sediment-, or rock-fluid (bio)geochemistry, ocean chemical sensor development and applications, ocean chemical cycles and their paleoceanographic reconstruction, and physical chemistry of gases, fluids, and solids in marine environments including estuaries, seeps, and vents. We are particularly interested in applicants who will take advantage of excellent facilities at CEOAS for observational work, modeling, and experimental and analytical research, including state-of-the-art analytical facilities across the college, the regional Ocean Observing Initiative (OOI) platforms, the OSU Marine and Geology Repository (OSU-MGR), and/or the new Regional Class Research Vessel (RCRV) R/V Taani, and many other college and university research facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories. It is expected that the incumbent will secure external research funding to support 60% of their full-time salary. For research-focused positions, it is CEOAS policy to confer indefinite tenure when promoted to full Professor, with the indefinite tenure granted on a 12-month, 0.75 FTE appointment. OSU maintains an institution wide commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and community, and seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce and student body that includes members of historically underrepresented groups. We strive to build and sustain a welcoming and supportive campus environment.
