The Earth and Planetary Science Isotope Laboratory (EPSIL) invites applications for the laboratory manager for the chemistry laboratory. EPSIL, is the new isotope laboratory at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Rutgers University, the state university of New Jersey. EPSIL focuses on studies in cosmochemistry, geochemistry, and planetary science by developing and employing cutting edge analytical chemical techniques to terrestrial and extraterrestrial materials.
Minimum Education and Experience:
M.S. or Ph.D. in cosmochemistry, geochemistry, or geology or a similar scientific discipline. Evidence of at least 3 years isotope geochemistry laboratory experience, siderophile element/isotope analysis strongly preferred. Evidence of at least 3 years' experience using the TIMS independently.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must operate and maintain sophisticated equipment. Must read and understand technical documents, perform scientific routines, protocols and tests, and articulate data to researchers of different levels of experience. Must be able to communicate effectively and have a commitment to a collegial and inclusive workplace. Will be required to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. Will be required to participate in required occupational healthy and safety programs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Under general guidance and direction, provide professional level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques. Perform multistage purification, other assays, of terrestrial and extraterrestrial rocks for elemental and high precision isotopic analyses. Assistance in development and refinement of analytical chemistry techniques for use of thermal ionization and inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometers. Maintenance of the clean chemistry laboratory for stable and radiogenic isotope studies. Supervision and training of new users of chemistry facilities. Assists PI's in ordering and maintain laboratory supplies.
