The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University located in Palisades, New York, is seeking an Intermediate Systems Analyst to provide support in the Marine Geology and Geophysics (MG&G) department. The successful candidate will serve as a software specialist and data analyst in support of the NSF funded Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) Program for the US Academic Research Fleet providing software development and technical support. Will also design, develop, implement and maintain software solutions to scientific problems and applications for R2R Program. Experience with marine data acquisition required as well as ability to write code in a variety of languages including shell scripting, PHP and Python. Also requires skills in problem solving and ability to evaluate and trouble shoot results in existing code. Must exercise high level of responsibility, independence, and expertise in the normal performance of duties.
Contribute to the maintenance and improvements of R2R Cruise Data Pipeline Services and the development and routine implementation of new services (e.g. for data ingestion, quality assessment, data calibration and documentation).
Work with team members in implementation of routine R2R data pipeline for annual expeditions of the Academic Research Fleet (data registration, publication, archiving and programmatic quality assessment).
Attend and present on R2R services and developments at science community and geoinformatics community meetings (e.g. RVTEC and AGU, ESIP, Earthcube).
Liaison with US marine operator community in the management of oceanographic data acquired with the Academic Research Fleet, NCEI and other data repositories. Develop and implement approaches to support improved data exchange, data center interoperability.
Exercises high degree of independent judgment and initiative on project execution.
Bachelor???s degree in Computer or Data Science, Math or Engineering, Earth or Marine Science and/or its equivalent and a minimum of 2-4 years of experience with marine or other earth science data acquisition and/or data analysis required.
Ability to manage and write code in a variety of languages including shell scripting, PHP and Python.
Knowledge and experience in at-sea oceanographic data acquisition including in geophysical, oceanographic and acoustical data acquisition, calibration and processing a strong asset.
Experience with HTML and SQL and in working with various computer architectures (Linux, PC, Apple) preferred.
Must have strong problem solving, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
