Advertised Job Summary:
The School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment (SEOE) invites applications for the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Instructor, a full-time Professional Track (non-tenure track) 12-month faculty position at the University of South Carolina. Primary duties will include maintaining critical functions of our Undergraduate Office and teaching one course per semester during the academic year. Undergraduate Office duties will be determined in consultation with the Director of the SEOE but will include overseeing and directly participating in undergraduate advisement, assessment, and course scheduling. The Director of Undergraduate studies will also oversee recruitment, orientation, awards, and programming for undergraduate majors in the SEOE. This hire will supervise Undergraduate Office staff and help mentor non-tenure track faculty instructors. Course assignments will depend on the expertise of the candidate and will focus on introductory courses that span Earth Science, Marine Science, and the Environment.
The SEOE Undergraduate Office supports 600 undergraduate majors in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Geological Science, and Marine Science.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
A PhD is required at the time of appointment, with at least two years of experience in higher education related to teaching, student advising, or student services. The position is designed to offer opportunities for long-term employment with the university after an initial 1-year appointment, with renewal contingent upon the approval by the Dean, availability of funding, instructional needs, and satisfactory performance.
