Assistant Researcher University of California Los Angeles
Requisition Number: JPF07600
The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Researcher. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in physics, geology/earth science, or a related field.
The person hired will work to further develop what is called the Expanding Box model to study the role of fluctuations and MHD turbulence in the accelerating region of the solar wind that are explored by Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter. The Assistant Researcher will conduct research on numerical simulations of the inner heliospheric plasma and aid to complete the development of the (accelerating) expanding box code in 3D MHD simulations. The Assistant Researcher will conduct research on some of the most important topics in heliospheric physics today, namely coronal heating and solar wind acceleration, by analyzing the dynamics of fields and particles from the fluid scales down to kinetics as they propagate away from the Sun. Additionally, the Assistant Researcher will be working on the problem of the triggers of fast reconnection which in the solar corona leads to both heating and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and Solar Flares.
Candidates must provide a (a) curriculum vitae, (b) cover letter, (c) statement of research, (d) statement on contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and (e) the names of three - five references including names and contact information. Applications will be accepted via the UC Recruit website at https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF07600 beginning July 25, 2022. The deadline to submit your application is August 24, 2022.
