Position Announcement:
The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University invites applicants for a post‐doctoral research position under the supervision of Dr. Douglas Edmonds and Dr. Brian Yanites. The successful candidate will contribute to recently funded NSF grant focused on understanding the impact of tree throw on hillslope sediment transport and evolution. The postdoc will be expected to develop a machine learning model to identify the topographic signature of tree throws in lidar data and use the model to understand climatic and geologic controls on tree throw production. Additional work could include using a drone-based lidar to field map tree throws, and developing landscape evolution models to quantify how tree throw impacts landscape form.
The position is for one year, with the opportunity of renewal depending on progress and funding availability. The expected start date is June 1, 2023, but is negotiable.

Basic Qualifications:
A Ph.D. by time of appointment in data science, geology (or earth science equivalent), geography, engineering or related field is required.
