FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Engineering & Environmental Science (EES) at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering for our Engineering Science program. Broad research areas of wind energy generation including transmission/distribution, electrical grid management and energy storage. The cross-cutting of the above areas withthe environmentwill also be considered. The position is at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 25 th , 2023. The Department of Engineering & Environmental Science has a full-time faculty of 17, supplemented with over 15 part-time faculty members. It offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Engineering Science and the BS in Electrical Engineering (EE) and both degrees are ABET-accredited. The Engineering Science program offers two specializations usually taken in the junior and senior years for students to explore and prepare for particular areas of engineering. Specializations are in Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering (MechE) with another in a cross-disciplinary area of Engineering (perhaps Environmental, Renewable Power Generation/Transmission and/or Civil) currently under preparation.
The department also offers BS degrees in Earth & Environmental Science and Earth & Environmental Science K-12, a minor in Geology, an Associate in Science (AS) in Engineering Science (with EE and MechE specializations) as well as a Masters in Engineering (ME) in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science (MS) in Environmental Science. The PhD program in Environmental Science is administered by and through the CUNY Graduate Center and the PhD programs in EE and MechE are administered through the City College of NY (CCNY) with which our department is in close collaboration.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses/laboratories in one or more of the areas specified, as well as conduct state-of-the-art research in any one or more of those areas. In addition, he/she is expected to share responsibilities for: advising students, college committees and departmental assignments (which include administrative, supervisory, and other functions).
The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 10,000 students. Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications include:
A Ph.D. in any of the above areasor other cross-disciplinary field of Engineering and/or Engineering Science is required. The preference is in Mechanical Engineering with expertise in any one of the above research areas. The candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to successfully teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, have an established scholarship record, and have a willingness (and/or successful record) to apply for external funding/grants. In filling this position, the Department seeks an individual with good leadership skills that is willing to work to continue strengthening our ABET-accredited Engineering Science program and expanding its Mechanical Engineering specialization as well as other possible specializations. The successful candidate has to possess the credentials for appointment to the CUNY Graduate School Faculty of Engineering either in Mechanical Engineering or other cross-disciplinary Engineering area depending on his/her qualifications.
$75,465 - $90,375
