Job Description:
The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction. We seek a dynamic and collaborative colleague who is enthusiastic about teaching and learning, who will contribute to curriculum development at all levels, and will contribute to our online professional MS program.
To fill this permanent, full-time, non-tenure-track position, we are delighted to receive applications from scholars whose expertise draws from the broad field of natural and earth resources to teach introductory geoscience courses and upper division/graduate geoscience courses. Exceptional candidates from other geoscience disciplines may also be considered.
Candidates are asked to identify relevant skills and expertise that may include, but are not limited to: natural resources, aqueous or organic geochemistry, soil or critical zone science, geobiology, geophysics, and/or environmental science. We welcome applicants whose expertise complements that of existing faculty in the Department of Geological Sciences and who can collaborate with other units on campus, such as the Voinovich Center. The successful applicant will contribute to developing an innovative, inclusive, and equitable curriculum applicable to programs grounded in high quality mentoring and engaging courses. The successful applicant will have opportunities to mentor undergraduates and a newly renovated lab space. Candidates should have experience working with a diverse range of students, faculty, and staff. Candidates who can contribute to a climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a PhD in earth resources, geoscience, or closely related fields by the anticipated start date of, August 16, 2023.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications*:
Expertise in natural or earth resources, or a related discipline.
Experience developing and teaching geoscience courses in multiple modalities.
A record of supervising or mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
Expertise in computational modeling, remote sensing, and/or GIS.
Interest in critical zone science.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion through teaching or mentoring are especially encouraged to apply.
