POSITION OVERVIEWThe Port Captain, under the general supervision of the Marine Superintendent, oversees and manages the Vessel Security Plan (VSP), Facility Security Plan (FSP), Spill Response Plans, and Regulatory Compliance specific to the marine facility and the ships. The incumbent has specific knowledge of the International Maritime Organization's ISM code, it's Safety Management System (SMS), and the code of federal regulations applying to the vessels in operation. Through auditing, and with input from various stakeholders in the operation, they amend and create policies in the SMS that aim to increase operational efficiency and lower the risk of (personal) accidents.
