Job Description:
- Teach Geology courses at the 100- to 300-level, including large enrollment courses, and directly supervised labs.
- Successfully teach undergraduate courses in Introductory Geology, Petrology, and Structural Geology.
- A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
- The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
- May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
- The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
- All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate or terminal degree in geosciences, or M.S. plus substantial progress towards terminal degree (ABD).
- Demonstrated ability to teach introductory geology courses.
- Ability to teach Petrology and Structural Geology courses at the 300-level.
- Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
- Ability to teach a mineralogy course at the 200-level.
- Ability to contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the geosciences.
- Applied research experience in environmental geophysics or critical minerals.
- Ability to utilize standard laboratory instrumentation including an X-ray diffractometer, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, scanning-electron microscope, and rock sample preparation equipment.
- Ability to engage undergraduates in research.
- Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner.
Other Requirements:
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is a two-year, full time, fixed-term appointment. The successful candidate will be provided with laboratory space, competitive salary and benefits, and a stipend to support conference travel and or research, as well as access to additional professional development opportunities offered by the university. The Minnesota State University, Mankato Geology program has three full-time faculty members, and is a component of the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Geology. The Geology program offers a bachelor's degree Geology, a bachelor's degree in Earth Science Teaching, a certificate in Environmental Geology, and serves additional majors including Education, Civil Engineering, and Construction Management. The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Geology also offers bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry (including an ACS approved degree), and Chemistry Teaching. The department is housed in Ford Hall, which opened in 2008, and features modern research and teaching laboratories, and direct access to instrumentation.
