Postdoctoral Research Associate
Description: The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the research group of Prof. Alycia Stigall. This a 2-year position, with the possibility of extension, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.
The post-doc will conduct research leveraging the extensive Ordovician record of marine invertebrates to explore how environmental change and species invasions impact paleoecology, biogeography, and evolutionary processes. Researchers in the lab group, which includes graduate and undergraduate students, combine field work with modeling methods, including niche modelling and other statistical techniques, Bayesian inference for phylogenetic and biogeographic hypothesis construction, and paleo community analysis with an emphasis on articulated brachiopods as focal taxa. The successful applicant will engage in ongoing research, develop, and lead independent projects on related topics, contribute to writing scientific papers and grants, and participate in student mentorship.
The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Geology and Environmental Studies, spanning geology, environmental geosciences, and planetary geosciences including a robust paleobiology research group.
