Juniata College invites applicants for the position of Sustainability Director.
Purpose: This role is designed to assess, prioritize, propose, and secure funding to implement projects to reduce CO2 emissions at Juniata College. The scope includes campus programming initiatives, facilities and vehicle fleets. This role will provide visible and documented evidence of substantive progress. Specifically, the incumbent will address:
Phase 1: Provide leadership and guidance to reduce Juniata College Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon footprint consistent with the 2007 commitment to reach net zero by 2045. Phase 2: Develop and lead the collective efforts of the Juniata community (faculty, staff, students, local community) toward broader sustainability goals to minimize adverse effects of operations on the environment and ecosystems.
Essential functions (job duties): Working for the Vice President of Advancement, this individual audits and assesses the current state of sustainability initiatives at Juniata and will utilize Key Performance Indicators to monitor and evaluate efficacy and prioritization of sustainability programs aimed at reducing the College's carbon footprint in alignment with the Campus Master Plan (to which this individual is a key contributor.) The incumbent recommends and drives the implementation of improvements. The incumbent will prepare reports, presentations, and proposals on campus sustainability efforts; utilize and maintain data to track success and illustrate sustainability efforts on campus; develop business cases and presents proposals and recommendations to College administration and other key stakeholders, including the Juniata Board of Trustees. The Director identifies, benchmarks and advocates for institutional policies, standards, best practices, and guidelines related to creating a sustainable campus. Specific activities include:
Drafting and implementing strategies and policies to address various environmental concerns including, but not limited to energy use and conservation, reduction of pollution, waste diversion & reduction, composting, green building and facility design, and education of the campus community on sustainability.
Collaborating effectively within Facilities department and any external consultants to provide input on construction/design standards. Leading, consulting and advising on the applicability of LEED requirements for new build and retro-commissioning projects.
Working with the Facilities team to identify and implement energy saving opportunities, as well as other sustainability initiatives.
Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities by way of grants, donations, institutional giving, resource collaboration, green fees, fee for service, and obtaining savings realized through project return on investment to support environmental initiatives, as well as campus facility upgrades. The Director will maintain a contemporary working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.

Qualifications:
Education Bachelor's degree/Master's preferred Graduation from an accredited college of university in the following disciplines: engineering, urban planning, finance, business, environmental science, biology, geology, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated successful experience is also acceptable.
Experience Specialist (minimum 5-7 years of job-related experience)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities PROJECTMANAGEMENT: Demonstrated success in developing investment proposals, and managing multiple, multi-year complex projects and budgets. Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with Juniata administration and faculty and, specifically, the Juniata Director of Facilities Services and the VP of Finance & Business Affairs, as well as external suppliers of design, architectural and construction consulting. PLANNINGANDORGANIZATION: Demonstrated ability to prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Refined organizational and time-management skills. ANALYTICAL: Demonstrated ability to analyze and to identify relevant and valuable information. Demonstrated creative problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail. FINANCIALSKILLS: Ability to prioritize and develop project proposals with compelling business cases to secure approvals and funding. Grant writing experience is a significant plus. INTERPERSONALSKILLS: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills. Must relate to people in an open, friendly and collaborative manner; establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders. COMMUNICATIONSSKILLS: Experience in communications/marketing and ability to create content for campaigns, engagement programs, digital channels and reporting. Excellent ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both verbally and in writing. Presentation skills are required to deliver proposals to various groups and levels including the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Administrators, Staff and Students. Ability to identify and advocate for learning opportunities, both for students, as well as the broader college and local communities. SUPERVISORYSKILLS: Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Ability to foster teamwork among staff members. Will supervise student workers. TECHNICALSKILLS: Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and standards relating to organizational sustainability compliance. Experience with/in a design/build consulting firm is a plus. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite 360 including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additional software experience is a plus.
