Job Summary
The Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences (GPS) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is searching for an individual to serve as their Division Enrichment Coordinator. The selected individual will help lead the development and execution of the division's diversity strategic plan to build a more inclusive culture and embrace a diverse working environment. The current position is part-time with the possibility to become full-time in the future.

Division resources will be deployed to best support these strategic goals.
Essential Job Duties
Attend and co-chair DEI Committee meetings. Schedule meetings, take notes, and post minutes.
Coordinate inreach and outreach for various division groups.
Be a point of contact to direct division members to Institute DEI resources and Institute affinity groups.
Serve as a liaison with the Caltech Center for Teaching, Learning, and Outreach (CTLO) and the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CCID) as needed for teaching/mentorship education.
Assist the Division Academic Manager in organizing Division and Institute-wide activities supporting graduate student recruitment, such as Future Ignited and Caltech Shines, and facilitate graduate student recruitment through national organizations such as NSBE, SWE, Rising Stars, etc.
Help review DEI statements provided by applicants for future faculty positions.
Regularly measure and communicate progress towards our short, medium, and long term goals.
Assist in recruiting underrepresented students and postdocs, including travel to conferences and other universities.
Help organize mentoring programs and events that enhance division culture for graduate students and postdocs.
Support and coordinate programming for GPS postdocs in collaboration with the Academic Affairs Manager, as well as other division activities.
Ensure the GPS DEI webpages are up to date.
Additional administrative support to the GPS academic affairs office as needed.
Help organize division field trips.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, business, management, organizational development, or related field, or a degree in an earth or planetary science related field.
Three years or more of experience in student affairs management, academic administration, or planning, designing, and delivering programs and practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in a complex environment.
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills, coupled with a strong attention to detail.
Experience with assessment efforts utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods.
High level of confidentiality, tact, and resourcefulness.
Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices as well as a record of implementing these initiatives through to execution.
Creative thinking skills and the ability to offer new ideas and approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion applicable to the academic setting.
Ability, and desire, to collaborate effectively and professionally with a variety of staff, faculty, postdocs, and students.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and initiatives.
Ability to work independently and with a team, and to manage resources effectively.
Good communication skills - both written and interpersonal, and an ability to exercise independent judgement while working in a team-oriented environment.
Demonstrated leadership, judgment, managerial, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
Ability and availability for occasional travel in order to implement the agreed upon strategy and the division's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Experience recruiting, onboarding, and retaining students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters' degree in student affairs, higher education administration, business, management, organizational development, or related field, or a degree in an earth or planetary science related field.
