Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm
Job Summary: The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation, training and routine maintenance of water quality instrumentation within an assigned lab. Instruments include an Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer, Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, Elemental analyzer, Ion and Gas Chromatographs, nutrient autoanalyzer and similarly related instruments and equipment.
Additional Department Summary: The Center for Freshwater Science was established to serve the interests of UA faculty with expertise in different areas of freshwater studies and to provide a focus and organized structure for interdisciplinary research and education. Currently, faculty from units within four colleges participate in the CFS and contribute expertise in biogeochemistry, biodiversity, conservation, ecology, geochemistry, geography, geology, hydrology, water policy/law, and water resources management. A variety of core and individual laboratories support research activities. This position is associated with the freshwater analytical laboratory supervised by the CFS director.
The Instrumentation Specialist should show evidence of competence in environmental chemistry, freshwater science, ecology, or related field and demonstrated promise of moving towards excellence in professional practice, and/or research and scholarly activities as appropriate for the position. Job responsibilities include training, operation, and oversight of analytical instruments operated by the UA Center for Freshwater Science (CFS) faculty and students.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 3 years or higher of related professional experience, or an MS degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in environmental chemistry, water quality analysis, or similar analytical experience. Basic computer skills are required and experience in data management is preferred. The successful candidate should also have good communication skills, experience working in teams, and be willing to work with diverse colleagues to promote an equitable and inclusive work environment.
