The University of Adelaide, Discipline of Earth Sciences, invites applications for a fixed-term (4 year) full-time Level B academic position in Earth Sciences.

Earth Science at the University of Adelaide has been consistently ranked well above world class in the Excellence in Research for Australia national audits. The discipline has two major research strengths; in crustal processes and tectonics, and in biogeochemistry and palaeoenvironments. These research strengths are underpinned by an extensive portfolio of world-class analytical and computational facilities and laboratories that support a vibrant postgraduate research community and partnerships in national and international research consortia.
About you
If successful, you will be involved in both research and teaching within this dynamic department, including teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels. You must have a strong research track record in palaeoclimatology, with the ability to teach into courses on Earth surface processes, climate, biosphere and low temperature geochemistry, both in the contemporary environment and through Earth’s geological history. The ability to innovate with classroom, laboratory, field and virtual teaching will be welcomed. You should demonstrate the capacity and potential to develop an independent research program, through attracting funding, supervising postgraduate students and developing new collaborations. Ideally, you should be willing and able to contribute to ARC funded research on climate and environmental change in Australia over the last 2000 years, thus leveraging mutual benefit from existing opportunities whilst strengthening the department’s research profile in this area. Where relevant, you will have the opportunity to join one or more of the University’s interdisciplinary research institutes, which include the Environment Institute and the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Resources.
Selection Criteria
PhD or equivalent degree in Earth Sciences.
Demonstrated research excellence in Quaternary palaeoclimatology and/or low temperature geochemistry, including a publication record in highly regarded scientific journals.
Demonstrated experience with geochemical, and/or palaeoecological analytical techniques applied to the above research track record.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team.
Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate-level Earth Science or related discipline; in classroom, laboratory, field environments, online and/or virtually.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, organisational skills and ability to forge collaborative relationships and engage others.
