The Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab in the Department of Geology at the University at Buffalo is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join an NSF-funded interdisciplinary project to explore rapid climate and ecosystem change in Southeast Alaska, by combining paleoclimate proxies and models. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based in the Geology Department at the University at Buffalo and will collaborate closely with grant partners. UB is a global leader in interdisciplinarypolar climate research and in climate action. We will begin to review applications October 1, 2024.
Job duties and responsibilities include:
Generate and interpret, using traditional frameworks and proxy system models, lipid biomarker and compound-specific stable isotope records from lakes in Alaska.
Along with the rest of the project team, the postdoc will improve understanding of the mechanisms behind Arctic climate, ice sheet, and ecosystem responses to rapid warming.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in earth sciences, (paleo)climate science, geochemistry, atmospheric sciences, or a related field at the time of appointment
Leadership in scientific peer-reviewed publications
Experience, as demonstrated by presentations and/or publications, generating and interpreting lipid biomarker and/or stable isotope paleoclimate proxy records, or closely related proxies
Experience with, or interest in learning how to use, proxy system models
Experience with, or interest in learning, scientific computing (e.g., R, Matlab, Python, etc.)
