Oliverian teachers provide an engaging and challenging academic curriculum that prepares students for college, while remaining responsive to their individual strengths, special needs, and diverse learning styles. We seek to inspire a love of learning through a focus on engagement, student choice, and experiential and applied learning. We support students in identifying, gaining access to, and transitioning into appropriate post-secondary opportunities.
The ideal candidate will:
Plan and teach life science classes for students in grades 9 through 12, as well as one math class as needed. In addition to Biology, classes can vary according to the teacher’s background, and may include Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology, Geology, Psychology, and/or Statistics.
Be responsible for providing exceptional instruction, balancing challenge and support for students with a wide range of learning profiles and academic background and ability.
Serve as an academic advisor and team leader to a group of five or six students. As team lead, you will be the point person for communication with parents and will collaborate with other team members to develop individualized guidance for the student.
Maintain excellent record keeping and communication regarding student work.
Serve as weekend respite dorm parent on a rotating basis. Support after school programming and evening study halls one day per week. Respite duties include organizing campus extracurricular activities as well as leading off-campus trips. Valid driver’s license required.
Have a Bachelor’s degree in a life science field. Advanced degree preferred.
