The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Physics beginning August 2026. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Physics or Applied/Engineering Physics (ABD candidates will be considered) and have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarship. In addition to contributing to the department’s core physics curriculum, the successful candidate will also teach electronics courses (analog, digital and computer) in support of our Electronics Engineering Technology program. While all areas of Physics will be considered, candidates with expertise in cutting edge research, such as Quantum Information Science (QIS), are especially encouraged to apply. The University also maintains a strong Computer Science program with specialization in digital forensics, and we welcome applicants whose research interests could foster synergies between physics, computer science, and related interdisciplinary areas. The position offers the opportunity to engage students in both classroom and undergraduate research settings, and to contribute to the growth of a collaborative academic community. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and teaching experience.
The home campus for this position is Bloomsburg with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

About the College: Physical and Environmental Sciences is one of seven departments in the College of Health, Science, and Technology at Commonwealth University. The College offers many nationally accredited and regionally distinct programs. The College seeks student-centered educators and scholars who use innovative, pedagogically sound methods to educate students and engage them in high-impact educational practices both inside and outside the classroom.
Duties:
Applicants will teach in the following Physics or Engineering teaching categories:
Teach undergraduate physics courses and electronics (analog, digital and computer) courses that support the Electronics Engineering Technology program.
Engage in scholarly research and supervise undergraduate research projects.
Provide effective instruction in multiple modalities, including in-person, remote, and hybrid (simultaneous in-person and distance) formats.
Advise and mentor students in both physics and electronics-related areas.
Contribute to departmental and university service.
The successful candidate will need to complete distance education training programs as made available by the University within two years of hire for the purpose of teaching in a multi-campus environment with remote teaching needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in Physics or Applied/Engineering Physics (ABD candidates considered with evidence of timely completion). 2) Demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. 3) Evidence of scholarly potential in physics, electronics, and related disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in electronics (analog, digital, and computer).
Interest or experience in supervising interdisciplinary undergraduate research.
Background in cutting edge research, such as Quantum Information Science (QIS) or similar.
